Getting you where you need to go, safely, reliably and on your terms.
Getting out the door shouldn’t depend on whether a bus is accessible or a lift is available. Deep Connections Community Services provides Assistance with Travel & Transport Arrangements for NDIS participants across New South Wales, so you can get to work, appointments, activities and the people who matter to you, with support that respects your choices.
Assistance with Travel & Transport Arrangements is NDIS support that helps you travel to the places that move you towards your goals. It is designed for people who can’t use public transport without substantial difficulty because of their disability.
In practice, that can mean a support worker driving you to and from an activity, travelling with you so you feel safe and supported, or helping you plan and make trips more independently. Providers deliver this support under the rules set by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
It's worth knowing what this support is not. NDIS transport funding covers travel costs linked to your disability, not the everyday transport costs every Australian has. It may help with getting to work, therapy or community activities when public transport isn't a realistic option for you.
Our travel and transport support is for people who need a little or a lot of help getting around, including:
NDIS participants who find public transport difficult or unsafe to use because of their disability
People who use mobility aids and need help getting in and out of a vehicle
Participants who need a support worker with them for the whole journey, not just the drive
People who want to build skills to travel more independently over time
Families, carers and support coordinators arranging travel on someone's behalf
Every trip starts with a conversation about where you want to go and what support makes the journey comfortable for you.
Reliable transport to your workplace, TAFE, university or training program, so getting there is one less thing to worry about.
Getting to GP visits, specialists, physiotherapy, counselling and other appointments on time, with support at the other end if you need it.
Activity based transport to sport, clubs, cultural events, places of worship and catch-ups with friends, with a support worker who stays with you if your plan includes it.
Regular pick-ups and drop-offs for group programs and centre-based activities.
Help getting to the shops, the bank, the post office or the pharmacy, at a pace that suits you.
A familiar support worker travels with you, helps with getting in and out of the vehicle, and supports you at your destination.
NDIS travel training that builds your skills step by step, such as reading timetables, using an Opal card, planning a route and practising a trip until it feels routine.
Help to plan and coordinate travel to new places, from working out accessible routes to arranging support for the day.
Transport is rarely the goal itself. It’s what makes your other goals possible. When we plan your travel support, we start with what you want to achieve.
Getting to a job, a work trial or classes consistently, alongside our employment and higher education support.
Joining a club, volunteering or seeing friends without relying on someone else’s schedule.
Keeping regular therapy and medical appointments, including sessions with our therapeutic supports team.
Building the skills and confidence to make some trips on your own.
A participant might be driven to a weekly sports program by a support worker who stays for the session, helping them build friendships and fitness.
Another might practise their bus route to TAFE with a support worker over several weeks, until they’re ready to make the trip on their own.
How transport is paid for depends on your plan. There are two common ways NDIS transport funding is used, and many participants use both.
Some participants receive transport funding if they can’t use public transport without substantial difficulty because of their disability. In many plans this sits in the Core Supports budget and is often paid to the participant in regular instalments. Depending on how your plan is managed and how the funding is set up, you may be able to use it to pay a provider for transport.
When a support worker takes you to or from a community activity, or certain capacity building supports, the provider can claim the travel through activity based transport line items. This usually involves time charged at the hourly rate for the support you’re receiving, plus a per-kilometre amount and any costs such as tolls or parking.
All costs are agreed with you in advance in your service agreement, and claims follow the NDIA’s current Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. We’ll explain exactly what will be charged before your first trip.
Working to the NDIS Practice Standards.
Your trips are planned around your goals, routine and preferences, not a fixed timetable.
You decide where you go, when, and how much support you want along the way.
We aim to match you with consistent support workers, so you're not explaining your needs to someone new every week.
To suit how you live.
We welcome people of all cultures, languages, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities.
Clear service agreements and invoicing that line up with NDIS support items.
Because we also offer community participation, daily living and support coordination, your travel can link smoothly with your other supports.

It may be. The NDIS can fund transport if you can’t use public transport without substantial difficulty because of your disability. Check your plan for transport funding, and remember that activity based transport can also be claimed when a provider takes you to community activities. We can help you understand what your plan includes.
Transport funding is money in your plan for getting around, often paid to you in regular instalments. Activity based transport is claimed by a provider when a support worker takes you to or from a supported activity, and it’s usually charged by time and distance.
In many cases, yes, if your transport funding is paid to you. How you can spend it depends on how your plan is set up, so check your plan or ask your support coordinator.
Yes. A support worker can drive you, travel with you and support you at your destination, depending on the supports in your plan.
Travel training teaches you the skills to travel more independently, such as planning a route, using public transport and handling unexpected changes. It’s usually funded as a capacity building support.
We recommend contacting us as early as you can, especially for one-off trips. Regular trips are set up in your schedule, so you don’t need to rebook each week.
Please let us know as early as you can. Our cancellation terms are explained in your service agreement and follow NDIS rules for short notice cancellations.
